The Significance of the Cross
In the Christian religion, the symbol of the cross represents "the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ for the redemption of the world" (Faithology.com). Many Christians wear a cross (usually in the form of a necklace or other jewelry) to express their commitment and devotion to their faith.

When we think of the cross as being used in fashion, we generally think of things like the silver necklace pictured above, or other religious uses of the image. However, the cross has been widely used in both high and popular fashion.
High-end fashion label Dolce and Gabbana frequently feature collections inspired by the Christian religion, using the cross in jeweled crowns, necklaces and earrings. Pictured below are pieces from the designers Fall 2014 collection.

Christian religious imagery is not just restricted to haute couture, however. More budget-friendly clothing companies have also been taking part in the "cross as fashion" trend. One example of this is popular clothing retailer Forever21. It's almost impossible to browse their website or one of their stores and not see a multitude of skirts, shirts, and dresses plastered with images of the cross.
